Enriching Opportunties for pupils

Delight in Watts Year 4:

This year Topaz class have had the amazing opportunity to take part in the Delight in Watts art project. The project aims to support and provide primary aged children with access to immersive and cross-curricular arts experiences, with the aim of broadening their horizons and increasing self-esteem.

The project has had a huge impact on the children of Topaz class and as a result they have had benefitted from engaging activities that have extended their cross-curricular learning opportunities. This year, the children were required to sketch, create and paint their own canvas painting of a rainforest animal, linked to our spring term IPC topic Saving the World.  The children worked alongside several professional artists to produce their own bright and vibrant canvas painting.

The project culminated in a ‘Topaz Exhibition’ at the Watts Gallery, where parents, family and friends were invited to celebrate their children’s creative achievements and engage in their education over a cup of hot chocolate. It was a wonderful experience that empowered the children to be proud of their learning, whilst sharing in the joy and pride of the adults around them.

Delight in Deam Year 5:

On Thursday 14th February 2019, UKS2 pupils at Pyrcroft Grange Primary School were delighted to take part in a very special interactive performance of Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. This magical occasion marked the beginning of this year’s collaboration with the Guildford Shakespeare Company and the ‘Delight in Dream’ project for pupils in year 5.

‘Delight in Dream’ is a creative education programme delivered to selected schools across Surrey and is designed to strengthen children’s educational and social outcomes, along with encouraging interest and participation in theatre. Children participating in ‘Delight in Dream’ have the opportunity to gain their Discover Level Arts Award. Over the next six weeks, the children in year 5 will be studying the text of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in detail, then they will be encouraged to write their own scripts for their version of the play; a pupil-led approach to scripting will allow for a deeper understanding of the writing processes involved, as well as developing skills in interpretation and creativity.

A further 3 hour ‘devising workshop’ with the GSC will help develop and build on performance skills and there will be a further rehearsal workshops prior to a final performance and celebration of the children’s achievements with family and parents on April 1st at 2pm.
